Courtesy mobile TV, users can view regular television programs on mobile phones and other mobile devices. It marries two dominant consumption trends of entertainment and mobile telephony in the country.

According to the Springboard report, as many as 84 percent of users are waiting for an affordable mobile TV service in the country. News, sports, music videos, and game shows have emerged as preferred choices for this service.

According to Ravi Shekhar Pandey, manager (Syndicated Research) of Springboard Research, "The market is ripe for the launch of mobile TV services, and we believe that India will have around 12 million mobile TV subscribers within the first year of launch of service."

Pandey added that a majority of mobile users in the country are interested in trying out mobile TV, and would invest in new handsets for using the service. That this willingness is definitely a positive sign for those considering offering mobile TV in one of the world's largest and fastest-growing mobile services market.

Going a step further, the report recommends that those companies planning to roll out the service should consider offering on-demand, pay-per-view option that will not be attached to a monthly subscription offer.

Presently, Doordarshan is the only player in this field. However, the report states that in recent months, the market has witnessed increased activities from various stakeholders, including technology providers, network equipment vendors, and mobile service providers like Nokia, Samsung, Spice Telecom, and Qualcomm.

Thanks to PS3, Sony enjoys spoils of HD fracas

Apple's iPhones seem to have a monopoly when it come to usable mobile Web browsing. Until now, freedom-loving users not wishing to get into bed with Steve Jobs were, for the most part, out of luck. This article explains how to get an even better mobile Internet experience, without having to do business with either AT&T or Apple--with no contracts and no $60 per month bill just to surf the Net.

Apple's iPhone: No user apps for you!

The iPhone is clearly the must-have device of the digerati. All of my colleagues seem to have have one, and frankly, I'm rather jealous. However, I have several deep moral problems with the iPhone which have prevented me from giving Apple my money.

Steve Jobs treats his customers with contempt. On a "stock" iPhone, you have no control over the applications you can install, cannot use MP3 ringtones, and can't even download songs to iTunes over the 802.11 connection. Yes, you can join the customer vs. company arms race, and try to hack your phone. However, the next time a software update is released, you may find yourself the owner of a $400 brick.

In addition to my problems with Apple, I really dislike the wireless carrier they've gotten into bed with--AT&T. My complaints about AT&T's profit-motivated collaboration with the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program have been frequently aired on this blog. Furthermore, the company only really offers ... A user-friendly mobile phone from Intex

Intex has introduced its IN 2020, a user-friendly mobile phone that claims a long-life battery with a stand-by time of 25 days, and non-stop conversation for up to seven and a half hours.
Intex claims the IN 2020 is possibly the first mobile phone in the market with such a high battery capacity. Possibly a corollary of this feature is that users don't have to charge the phone on an everyday basis. Also included are features like a blacklist facility and a phone book memory of 500 numbers.

There's also a unique feature called "Make your song your ring tone", wherein users can record up to two songs in five minutes, making those songs their ring tones. The phone comes with pre-loaded sing tones from Tips Industries' Top 20 songs listing, eight games, and twin language support to allow menu display and messaging in Hindi as well as English.

An enthusiastic Shailendra Jha, business manager (Mobile Phones) of Intex, said at the launch that with the price of the phone, they hope to strike the right chord with both mid- and lower-end consumer segments, which form approximately 60 to 70 percent of the entire mobile phone market across rural and urban areas of the country.
The Bar-shaped IN 2020 is available in Suave Red-Black and Orange-Black combos, and retails for under Rs 2,000.
